As of the end of June, data from the jobs portal Career Junction indicates the most in-demand jobs in South Africa for the first six months of 2023. According to the company’s most recent Industry Report, hiring climbed by 10% in June 2023 compared to the previous year, while recruitment activity increased by 6% year on year from June 2022. According to the organization, this was mostly due to a general increase in recruiting, as well as considerable increases in hiring for the Finance and IT sectors, as well as Admin, Office & Support and Architecture & Engineering.
The report’s data came from 5,000 of the country’s major recruiters, agencies, and companies who post job openings on the Career Junction platform. Building & Construction, Sales, and Business & Management were the industries with the biggest recruiting activity over the last three months, according to the statistics.

According to Career Junction, recruitment in South Africa per province remained largely flat over the quarter. As the country’s economic hub, Gauteng still provides the majority of job chances (53%), according to the organisation. The following 30% of job offers are in the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), with KZN seeing a 1% decrease in recruiting compared to the previous month but still holding the third greatest number at 9%.
According to CareerJunction, recruitment numbers in South Africa increased steadily in the first half of 2023.”The first half of 2023 (H1:2023) showed stable growth in vacancies, indicating an improved level of employment compared to the last quarter of 2022,” the agency reported. This was corroborated by Stats SA’s quarterly labor force survey (QLFS), which revealed an increase in employment during Q1:2023, with 179,000 more individuals employed than in Q4:2022.
